Doppelte Girlpower sozusagen.
MEET MAPEI
You’ve just released your album ‘Hey Hey’ – what was the inspiration behind it?
Happiness. I believe that we are respon- sible for our own happiness. So I tried to create an album of sonic positivity made up of catchy tunes!
What is your favourite thing about being an artist?
I love sharing my soul and bringing people together.
Do you have any advice for young artists?
Some days it can be really hard to re- member where you want to be. But don’t let that get you down – create mood- boards to remind yourself of your goals and help you to get back on track.
What kind of qualities do you think a typical Monki girl has?
She’s a strong girl who knows herself, she’s not afraid to try out something new. She’s creative and open and worldly.
What is #monkistyle to you?
#monkistyle is vibrant and colourful. It’s on the pulse with what is going on in the world today but is still fun and loving.
What are you most proud of?
I’m really proud of “Don’t Wait”. It’s a really great tune, the words are right, my voice sounds like me and it’s a song about my friends.
MEET MARAWA
You’re a world record holding hoola hooper – where did you start out?
It isn’t something people usually think you go to university to study but I actually have a degree in Circus Arts! I majored in flying trapeze and hoola hooping.
Is this the first campaign you’ve been the star of?
I have been in a few campaigns but none as big as this. I really feel like I understand and share Monki’s values and message.
We feel that way too! How would you describe a typical Monki girl?
A Monki girl is a smart, active person who likes to get things done. She knows her own style and isn’t afraid to play around with bright colours or patterns.
What is #monkistyle to you?
It is feminine and comfortable – but not at all boring or sensible. #monkistyle is strong and memorable.
You and Mapei have been friends for a long time- what is her best quality?
Her determination. She has worked so hard to be where she is today and when you hear that album it is 100% her. She made no compromises.
What are you most proud of from your own career?
My world record! It was so hard to do. It took me almost two full years to achieve. But it was worth it in the end.
